PBIS

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework for improving and integrating all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day. It is a way to support everyone – especially students with disabilities – to create the kinds of schools where all students are successful.

What is PBIS at Toby Johnson MS?

Teachers and administrators at Toby Johnson, as part of a district-wide initiative, have agreed upon a set of expected behaviors on campus: Safe, Kind, Respectful and Responsible. These expectations are used as an effective way to be proactive in managing behaviors. This approach to managing behaviors is a positive one. The students at TJMS have been taught what these expectations look like in 10 areas of our campus. Students are acknowledged for exhibiting the expected behaviors by receiving a certificate of acknowledgement called “Jag Swag.” These certificates are turned in to teachers for classroom drawings and later school-wide drawings for prizes and privileges on TJ-TV.
