Aimee Bradley – PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Welcome to Toby Johnson!  We are so glad to have you on our Aggies 8 Team.  I graduated from Brigham Young University in Kinesiology and finished my graduate degree at Sacramento State University.  This is my 21st year teaching overall and I have spent 13 of them at this school site.  I too live right here in this community and am excited that my own children are FINALLY in middle school!  I have three girls at home – twin 13 years olds who are 8th graders here at Toby Johnson, and an 11 ½ year old in 6th grade at Castello Elementary School.  I love teaching PE because of student’s positive attitude and excitement for learning new activities!  I am very happy to be your PE teacher and look forward to meeting you. GO AGGIES!!!

Arlene Eun-Sapsis - SCIENCE

My students call me Mrs. Sapsis.  I received my BS in genetics from UC Berkeley and went into research science.  Upon graduation, my first research project was determining how long ago two different species of sea urchins diverged from a common ancestor.  My second research project was studying what genes were responsible for bacteria dividing into two different cells: one with stalk and another with flagella.  My third and last research project was studying how yeast cells get rid of their waste for Dr. Randy Schekman lab; he received Nobel Medicine Prize in 2013 for his work.  When my husband and I moved to Sacramento in 1995, I started my career path that veered away from research science, but I have never lost my interest in science and how things work.  For several years, I worked for nonprofit organizations, until I found myself wanting to teach—just like my sister! She made teaching first grade looked fun and easy. In my 20 years of teaching, I have found teaching to be many things, but NOT easy.  I find teaching to be exhilarating AND rewarding. I find teaching to be challenging and sometimes exhausting, BUT it is also reinvigorating. Students are the ones who drive me to be a better person and to be better at my craft as a teacher. I look forward to working with you and your student this year.

Laura Dvorak – ENGLISH

I am thrilled to be your student's English teacher. As a native of Elk Grove who attended Toby Johnson and Franklin myself, I am so grateful to launch the next generation of Jaguars on their paths to success. With a BA in English from Whitman College and MA in Education from UC Davis, I am eager to share my passion for literature and education. I hope to provide instruction that challenges and engages all students, and to instill in them a strong work ethic and investment in their own learning. I particularly love integrating active learning strategies and introducing students to Shakespeare. Outside of the classroom, I can be found reading the latest teen fiction, exercising, and traveling with my husband. This is my third year at Toby Johnson. Thank you in advance for your support of your student's education. Go Aggies!
